HCT Showcases Clean Energy & Solar Panel Projects at WETEX & Dubai Solar Show 2023

The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) made a notable presence at the 25th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show (DSS), organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Through its dedicated exhibition stand, HCT showcased a collection of student projects centered on environmental sustainability. Alongside these innovative projects, HCT highlighted its academic programs, majors, and courses related to sustainability, emphasizing the institution's commitment to fostering environmental awareness among its students and encouraging them to integrate sustainability principles into their projects and innovative ideas.

Among the innovative projects showcased at the HCT stand was the "Low-Cost Solar Energy System with Data Recording" project, developed by Latifa Muhammad, an Electrical Engineering student. This project focuses on developing a solar panel system managed through a high-quality infrastructure, facilitating the collection of vital elements, such as heat, energy, and other crucial elements. Regular recording of this data enables continuous monitoring and enhancement of the solar panels' performance. Additionally, any issues encountered with the panels can be addressed based on the recorded data, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

Sheikha Almatrooshi, an Electrical Engineering graduate, showcased a project featuring a hexagonal, autonomous UAV designed for performing maintenance tasks on solar panels. This project aligns with the burgeoning growth of solar panels, contributing to environmental sustainability. Sheikha’s participation in the exhibition enabled her to presenting the project model to experts in the field. The ultimate goal is to gather industry insights, learn about experiences, and stay updated on the latest technology in the field, thereby supporting the ongoing development of the project and improving its overall efficiency. WETEX is seen as a valuable opportunity for HCT students to stay informed about the latest technologies associated with environmental sustainability and clean energy.

HCT’s participation at WETEX 2023 extended beyond the engagement of students in innovative projects and ideas. It was also an opportunity to highlight HCT's accomplishments in advancing sustainability via a range of strategic projects focused on diminishing energy consumption, enhancing water usage efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and championing the green building initiative. As a result of this strategic focus, HCT has been recognized for its sustainable practices in educational and corporate fields with numerous local, regional, and international awards.

Engineering student Mahra Ismail said attending the exhibition was an opportunity to connect with experts and specialists in the clean energy field. This interaction allowed her to engage in discussions about ideas and advancements within the sector, ultimately enriching her knowledge about clean energy and its associated technologies.
