HCT-Dubai Women’s College (DWC), Computer Information Sciences (CIS) student Amna Abdulla Ahmad Al Ameri has been nominated to be part of the prestigious Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Scholars Program (SMSP).

The SMSP offers Emirati students a unique access to specially designed courses, lectures, leadership experiences, networking and graduate school opportunities and scholarships. It accepts scholars from among the most outstanding students at the UAE’s three national universities - the Higher Colleges of Technology, the United Arab Emirates University, and Zayed University.

The Scholars Program has been developed in close consultation with the Abu Dhabi Education Council, national universities and colleges in the UAE and New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). As part of the programme, successful students get to travel to the USA where they visit the NYU campus in New York City and also visit Washington D.C. where they meet numerous leaders who are involved in cultural, academic and leadership fields.

The SMSP aims to provide access to NYU’s global research, educational, and leadership network, to foster greater awareness of international issues and challenges, and to develop in these scholars the capacity to shape the future and to prepare them for graduate and professional study at institutions of their choice.

Amna was selected among hundreds of other students and she overcome many tests and interviews before she was finally chosen as a Scholar for the SMSP.

“I have so far took four classes at NYUAD, and I feel like I am already developing myself, I have noticed that I started to strengthen my leadership skills by presenting more confidently, and each class I noticed also that I learned something different, and at the same overcome my weaknesses,” Amna said.

Amna added that she felt this course has enabled her to leverage her critical thinking skills as well as she feels that each assignment and reflections report encourages her to express her feelings, and think more critically.

The CIS Acting Programme Chair at DWC, Dr. Vish Akre said the college was very proud of Amna’s achievements, who is an excellent CIS student (majoring in Business Solutions), an interactive member of the DWC Student Council and a self-motivated individual for whom the sky is the limit.

The Program was introduced to DWC by the college’s Careers Department team member Dina Abuljebain, who is the college’s Employer Relations Coordinator.
