Bachelor of Design and Media Production

The Faculty of Applied Media offers a Bachelor degree program that is competency-driven, practice-based, and develops interdisciplinary applied skills through an apprenticeship program.

To enable students to succeed, we provide an industry aligned program of practical and theoretical skills in communication, digital media and content design.

Program Description

The Bachelor of Design and Media Production program provides students with a solid foundation in design and digital media practice and content production. By developing essential skills and a deep understanding of visual design principles and cross-disciplinary content production, this program prepares students for the practical challenges of the digital and creative industries. Practical integrated learning, and collaborative team projects will provide students with valuable industry experience, Our aim is to prepare graduates for successful careers in design and media production, interactive media, supporting their enablement to contribute to professional design enterprises and projects using AI, Creative Suite, digital media production and design interfaces.

Program Goals

  1. Equip students with the creative and technical skills needed to excel in design and media production.
  2. Prepare students to develop skills in critical strategic thinking to generate innovative and effective design and media production solutions.
  3. Prepare students for a successful career as effective decision-makers with strong communication and teamwork skills and an understanding of global, ethical, and social implications of the Design and Media production industry.
  4. Foster an entrepreneurial mindset in students, emphasizing teamwork and user-centric approaches for success in the evolving digital landscape.
  5. Inspire students to make a commitment to lifelong learning and continuing education, and professional growth as a design professional.

Program Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program the graduate will be able to:

PLO1 Create effective design and multimedia content by applying a range of skills, including idea generation, concept development, reflective practice, artmaking, presentation, and production.
PLO2 Communicate and present in a professional and ethical manner with colleagues,
supervisors, learning partners, and suppliers in the design and media industry.
PLO3 Develop strategies and concepts that are aligned with the objectives specified by the client briefs by analysing data and applying relevant research methodologies.
PLO4 Utilize project management tools and techniques proficiently to plan, execute, and evaluate design and media production projects.
PLO5 Demonstrate a capacity to navigate complex challenges and make informed decisions in alignment with ethical, societal, and sustainability standards.

Graphic Design Concentration:
PLO6 Utilize graphic design processes to generate outputs that adhere to design industry
standards.
PLO7 Demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in graphic design, encompassing UX/UI, visual communication, and branding techniques to attain professional outcomes.

Media Production Concentration:
PLO6 Utilize media production processes to generate outputs that adhere to media production industry standards.
PLO7 Demonstrate an advanced level of proficiency in storytelling encompassing design, AI, video production, motion graphics, UX/UI, and other relevant media forms to effectively convey messages and narratives in the context of media production.
