Problem or Opportunity Description

Water scarcity and the increasing demand for agricultural production have both highlighted the need for efficient irrigation systems. Traditional irrigation systems that rely on human intervention and manual monitoring are wasteful by nature. There is an opportunity to develop a more efficient and effective irrigation system leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

Proposed Solution

The proposed solution integrates IoT sensors with irrigation systems to automate the process of monitoring soil moisture, weather conditions, and plant water requirements in real-time. The sensors are placed in the soil to measure the moisture levels at different depths and transmit its data to a central microcontroller for processing along with weather data such as temperature, humidity, and rainfall. The microcontroller then determines the optimal amount of water needed and triggers the irrigation system accordingly. This solution incorporates a mobile app that allows farmers to remotely monitor and control the irrigation process, adjust irrigation schedules, and receive alerts in case of abnormal conditions. The proposed solution improves water usage efficiency and reduces the amount of water wasted due to over-irrigation. This results in cost savings for farmers, improved crop yields, and a more sustainable use of water resources.
