Problem or Opportunity Description
Date palm pit waste accumulation in the UAE produced by more than 40million date palms in the UAE. Aquaculture production in the UAE comprises more than 800 tons of fish and steadily growing with increase in population. Future demands of consumers for fish and the ability to supply is expected to widen significantly due to a growing population; this is poised to outstrip local fish supply.
Proposed Solution
Utilization of date palm pit waste to derive growth promoting and immunoprophylactic feed for aquaculture. The formulation of pre-gelatinized date pits, a waste material, produced by more than 40 million date palms grown in the UAE for a more efficient growth enhancement and immunomodulatory fishmeal for aquaculture applications. This is aimed at potential commercialization into fortifying fish production.
