RAK’s First Ever Technology Exhibition/Shopper (TELEX) Ends With a Blast
HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Kayed Al Qassimi opened the first Technology, Edutainment and Learning Exhibition (TELEX) to be held in Ras Al Khaimah at the HCT-Ras Al Khaimah Women's College (RKWC) on May 13, with an ambitious participation of 37 vendors and exhibitors showcasing the latest trends in technology.
The two-day TELEX exhibition was planned and organized by the Faculties of Computer Information Science and Applied Communications.
TELEX was focused on launching a unique exhibition in Ras Al Khaimah that larger cities in the UAE already have established. From the turnout on the two days, it was very evident that the RAK version was a resounding success, with several dignitaries, school students and the general public attending.
During the evening of Day 1, His Highness Shaikh Taleb bin Saqr al Qassimi paid a surprise visit to TELEX and was enthralled by the collection of products on display by the vendors and exhibitors. He said: “I would like to thank the HCT Management and organizers of TELEX for launching such a needed event in Ras Al Khaimah. I would like to also take this opportunity to thank the students for taking such an active part in the Exhibition and urge them to continue in the future to enhance their educational link with industry. I would like to thank all the vendors who participated in the first TELEX Exhibition/Shopper. I would like to see this to become an important Exhibition over the next few years.”
On the exhibition's sidelines 18 workshops were conducted covering several areas of IT and Media, such as Ethical Hacking, 3D Modeling, Unity Game programming, Creating iBook, Cisco Networking Academy and Microsoft Cloud Development. HCT students and faculty members and local university and school students attended these workshops. Students from the Applied Communications Programme displayed their short films and answered questions from the audience.
Ibrahim from the University of Bolton said he truly enjoyed the workshop and Exhibition and felt that if it is held every year, he will not need to go to other cities to get great bargains on products.
One of the faculty members visiting from Sharjah HCT, Hanar AlAtrooshi mentioned that her students benefited from the iBook workshop and the Exhibition.
Many community members visited TELEX in the evening hours and were quite surprised at the great bargains, promotions and deals available. One of the visitors, Babu Varghese came to the Exhibition on both days and said, I wish that the shopper and deals went on for longer than just 2 days.
The vendors had a very successful presence. Many of them had brisk sales and lots of genuine requests for after TELEX. Al Futtaim Electronics and Appliances representative mentioned that they had more sales at TELEX RAK than at any other Exhibition they attended apart from GITEX Dubai.
Projection House, sales executive, Fahiz Yuosef said, “Students and visitors alike loved the mini projectors from LG and we sold a lot of them”.
Pro Technology (who sell 3D printers, robotics, VR devices) Product Manager, Marlon Balat said, “I did not expect that we would have such great sales in Ras Al Khaimah at a College location. I was impressed and will definitely participate in the next TELEX RAK 2016. AlHariry mobiles, a local store was very excited to be part of the event and the Manager, Mohamamd said, “In one day I sold more than I sell at my store in a week.”
In addition to well-known vendors, such as Lexus Cars, Golden Eye Sony, Jumbo Electronics, HDL Smart Homes, Huawei Enterprise Technologies, Cisco and Microsoft, there were also newer vendors who wanted to promote themselves in RAK. Prologix is an online store and they participated for exposure in RAK. The sales representative, Roshan said, “I am impressed by the amazing details given to make sure the vendors and exhibitors were taken care of. There was attention to refreshments, assistance with loading and uploading and immediate response to requests from management. I believe TELEX has high potential in the future and Prologix will be eager to be in the next version."
Dr. Ani Atansova, CEO of Pixel Hunters said: “There was massive interest in the “Biking in Abu Dhabi” Interactive game we developed. We thank the government of Abu Dhabi for allowing us to showcase it in RAK. The booth was never empty of visitors."
TELEX had something for everyone and during the Exhibition there were activities, live demonstrations and interactive competitions round the clock.
Fatema Al Suwaid, the coordinator of the activities said: "I wanted all students to see and experience first hand the various technologies on display at TELEX."
Advanced Media Technologies, Corporate Sales Manager, AbdulRahman Sawalha demonstrated to the students and visitors the latest drone technology with cameras. He took a video of the whole Expo from above using the drone.
Dr. Ali Al Mansoori, Director of the HCT-RAK Colleges reiterated his support for such events that encourage Academic and Industry collaboration. Mr. Saeed AbulReesh, Head of services who gave the opening speech said, "TELEX needs to be the new signature event in Ras Al Khaimah”.
Fauzan Qazi, Computer Information Science Programme Chair said, "I am beside myself at the success of TELEX. This proves the need in the community for such technology related Exhibitions. Ras Al Khaimah is no more a tiny far off city. It has grown in size and population and having a local technology Exhibition is critical. It also provides both the industry and academia to forge stronger relations.”
The TELEX organizing team was very happy at the successful conclusion of the exhibition/shopper and is hoping to have TELEX 2016 preparations beginning from now.
