Madinat Zayed and Ruwais Colleges celebrate start of new academic year
Students and staff at Madinat Zayed and Ruwais Higher Colleges of Technology are celebrating this week the start of another innovative and progressive year of teaching and learning in the Western Region.
There are many new students and new initiatives in the colleges this academic year, keeping the Higher Colleges of Technology at the forefront of education in Al Gharbia and throughout the United Arab Emirates.
Over 200 new students are being welcomed this week with a well-planned orientation program set up by Student Services, to help them finalize their registration, find their way around the colleges, learn about all the facilities available to support their learning, the riches of learning available in the Independent Learning Centre, the additional support at their fingertips in the Student Development Centre and the wealth of resources we have in the libraries.
The key feature of the orientation program is to make these new students feel at home as soon as possible and ease the transition from secondary school to college.
There are many new initiatives in the colleges, including a research group has been set up at the colleges to establish an annual research fair to showcase research done by students and staff over the past year and to share amongst members some of the interesting and diverse areas of expertise at the colleges.
New programs will include Chemical Engineering to complement already existing programs in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic engineering. These will run alongside already established IT, Business and Med Lab Technology degree programmes. In addition the colleges will be hosting sponsored diplomas in Engineering (ADNOC) and Food Inspection (ADFCA).
The colleges enjoy a close partnership with industry, government and schools in the Western Region and over the coming academic year these ties will strengthen with the sponsorship of students and programs and the hosting by the colleges of events aimed at the development of the region.
