Higher Colleges of Technology Showcases Student Innovations in Technology and Sustainability at WETEX 2025

The Higher Colleges of Technology participated in the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2025, organized by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) at the Dubai World Trade Centre, showcasing student-led innovations that reflect the UAE’s vision for sustainability, clean energy, and technological advancement.

Through its participation, HCT highlighted a number of pioneering projects developed by its students, demonstrating the university’s commitment to applied education and its focus on empowering the next generation of innovators.

Among the showcased projects was the “IoT Low-Cost Solar Energy System with Real-Time Data Logging,” which introduces an affordable and efficient solar energy model that leverages Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor solar panel performance, weather conditions, and energy consumption in real time. The system enables smarter energy management and supports the optimization of solar power systems, aligning with national efforts to advance renewable energy solutions.

The second project, “HCT-SAT1 CubeSat,” was developed in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre and involved 29 students from six HCT campuses. The project encompassed all stages of the satellite’s development, from design and assembly to its successful launch and deployment into orbit. Through this hands-on experience, students gained practical expertise in systems design, data analysis, and engineering, reinforcing HCT’s mission to prepare a generation of highly skilled national talents equipped with advanced technical capabilities and an innovative mindset that drives progress and excellence.

HCT’s participation at WETEX forms part of its broader strategy to integrate sustainability across its curricula, research, and partnerships. By showcasing student innovations at one of the region’s leading sustainability exhibitions, HCT continues to strengthen its role in shaping a skilled and future-ready workforce that contributes to the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 initiative.
