HCT-Fujairah hosts important community events

Community spirit thrives at both men’s and women’s campuses

From February 28 to March 1 HCT – Fujairah was buzzing with activity as it hosted three back-to-back events:  the all new ‘Olympics of the Mind’, ‘Open Day’, and the annual ‘Program Choice Fair’.

With a combined total of 800 people attending the three events at both the men’s and women’s campuses, HCT-Fujairah is thrilled with the overall success.

This year HCT-Fujairah introduced the ‘Olympics of the Mind’ by hosting teams from local high schools; encouraging them to sample a taste of college life.

The high school students tackled an Engineering Challenge, a General Knowledge Quiz and took a tour of the campus at Fujairah Women’s College. They also embarked on an experiential learning activity.

The standards were set extremely high as the students, accompanied by their teachers and representing over 20 local high schools took to the challenges with aplomb, enthusiasm and perseverance. The winning teams were invited back to the college the next day to accept their awards at the colleges’ annual Open Day celebration.

During the afternoon and evening of March 1 the HCT – Fujairah Open Day celebration saw record numbers of visitors to both campuses. Open Day serves to celebrate the HCT – Fujairah Community and all faculty and staff, students, their family members, community board members, prospective parents and students were invited.

Representatives for the Olympics of the Mind winners were on hand to accept their prestigious awards.  One of the students, Amnah Khalfan, B ED program year 1, spoke of her thorough enjoyment at participating in the challenges and activities. “I loved how busy the college was. My friend and myself had a lot of fun participating in some of the activities and watching some other ones,” she said.

Games for the children, falconry exhibits, and Safe Driving activities, story-reading in the Library were just some HCT-Fujairah experiences on offer, as well as a comprehensive viewing of program choice exhibits for the general public.

The Program Choice Fair continued early the next week at both campuses allowing foundations students to peruse individual program booths, and classroom set ups that promote the benefits and topics featured in each program of study.

Dr. Dave Pelham, Director commented on the triple action at HCT- Fujairah.

“These three events demonstrate HCT Fujairah’s commitment to the students of the East Coast.  The Olympics of the Mind competition gave some of the best high school students the opportunity to compete with one another to show their academic and analytical skills.  The Open Days at both Colleges allowed us to show present and future students and their families what HCT Fujairah can offer them.  Finally, the Career Choice Fair gave current students in our Foundations Program the opportunity to learn about programs and career paths open to them at our Colleges,” he said.
