HCT Boosts Information Security Protection With Receipt of ISO 27001 Certification

The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) has boosted its information security services for employees and students, with receipt of the ISO 27001 certification for successfully enhancing its information security management system.

The certification endorses HCT’s commitment to ensuring cyber security for its students, faculty, staff and the community at large.

At a ceremony held in the HCT-Abu Dhabi campuses, Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, HCT President and CEO, received the award from Engineer Lamis Maraqa, Director and regional partner of TUV InterCert. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Jihad Mohaidat, HCT Vice President of Educational Technology, and the HCT Educational Technology team responsible for the fulfilment of ISO certification standards and criteria.

Dr. Al Shamsi explained that this certificate in information security and management is an affirmation of the HCT’s efficiency in, and commitment to, as the UAE’s largest higher education institution, the implementation of international standards and utilization of relevant best practices that boost quality and effectiveness, and maintain confidentiality.

The President and CEO emphasized the importance and benefits of ISO 27001 certification in reducing the possibility of security breaches within an organization; maintaining confidentiality of information assets; minimizing IT risks and possible damage and consequential costs; creating a competitive edge due to recognized standards; increasing trust with partners, customers and the public; and ensuring effective performance.

Dr. Al Shamsi praised the efforts of the HCT Educational Technology team, which dedicated its time, resources and skills for 6 months towards the fulfillment of ISO 27001 standards and the achievement of institutional excellence.
