HCT wins leading innovation award in Global Blackboard 2019 Catalyst awards

The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) has been named as a winner of a Leading Change Award at the Blackboard 2019 Catalyst Awards, in recognition of its efforts to actively promote widespread adoption of innovative strategies aimed at boosting learning outcomes and student success.

At Blackboard's Annual BbWorld Conference, held recently in Texas, USA, Dr Abdullatif Al Shamsi, HCT President and CEO, accompanied by an HCT delegation, received the award.

Dr Abdullatif Al Shamsi said the award was a testament to HCT’s focus on integrating cutting-edge technology for the advancement of students, noting that HCT has been using Blackboard’s suite of products for the past 15 years.

Dr. Al Shamsi added that, in 2018, HCT and Blackboard signed an agreement to foster a partnership for the first Digital Center of Excellence in the Middle East, as well as to improve the educational experience of students and faculty through educational technology and digital learning. He said that such a collaboration would help HCT keep to abreast of the rapid technological changes and achieve institutional digital transformation.

Dr Al Shamsi also highlighted the increased focus of HCT 4.0, HCT’s new strategic plan, on preparing students to cope with the expected changes in the future of employment, arising from the 4thIndustrial Revolution, which necessitates the promotion of the digital learning environment to produce professional, competent and innovative graduates.

Dr Jihad Mohaidat, HCT Vice President of Education Technologies, said that the HCT continues to strive for implementing innovative projects and best practices with the aim of achieving institutional digital transformation.

He added that winning the Leading Change Award reflects HCT’s success in accelerating innovation, which drives student success through the Blackboard platform. This platform benefits both students and faculty and enhances the HCT’s Learning Management System in general, providing all the services needed by students and faculty in one place.

During this BbWorld conference, the HCT delegation submitted a work paper on the development of its educational experience and the implementation of integrating cutting-edge technologies, strategies and practices in the HCT learning environment.
