ADWC students celebrate International Women’s Day
Students at the Higher Colleges of Technology’s Abu Dhabi Women’s College commemorated International Women’s Day this week by noting the state of their own wellness. The event’s theme was “Let It Out!” and it featured de-stressing with guests Dubai Drums, as well as yoga, aerobics, a health quiz, acupuncture, and diet counseling, among other activities.
Dubai Drums are perennial favorites among the College’s students and staff, and dozens of women joined in exhilarating drumming sessions.
Business student Fatima said on the occasion, “I love International Women’s Day celebrations. Every year we have more things to do and to celebrate.”
At a “Graffiti Wall” in the College’s Assembly Hall, students responded in both art and writing to the prompt, “How do you feel being a woman? Let it out!” One woman wrote with enthusiasm, “Now is the best time to be a woman, and here is the best place!”
The College event received generous support from Kitsch Cupcakes (featuring low-fat, low-sugar cupcakes), Al Rahma Chinese Medical Center (acupuncture), Solace Organics (organic beauty products), the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology (teaching relaxation techniques), Foot Print Spa (hand and foot reflexology), and Advanced Cure Diagnostic Center (diet advice).
Dr. Jace Hargis, Director of the HCT’s Abu Dhabi Women’s College, stated, “The College years are a critical time in which women can prepare themselves not only for their professional lives but for an active, healthy lifestyle. We are grateful to our community partners for their support on this very special occasion.”
