ADWC & KCWC Celebrate Flag Day in Unison with Government Entities
Abu Dhabi Colleges Director Dr Sultan Hussain Karmostaji led hundreds of Abu Dhabi and Khalifa City Women’s Colleges’ students as they raised the UAE flag in unison with hundreds of thousands of people across the UAE.
This initiative was launched in 2013 by H.H. Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, as a national event to encourage all Emiratis to raise the UAE flag in unison across the country to demonstrate loyalty to the President and the nation. Flag Day is held on November 3, to mark the occasion of the accession of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the UAE.
Abu Dhabi Colleges joined in with all other HCT’s campuses in celebrating the occasion, along with all government departments and many private organisations and households. Students and staff from the HCT-Abu Dhabi Colleges decorated the main entrances with national flags and symbols to set the scene, while national music was played. Hundreds of students assembled with enthusiasm, each bearing a small UAE flag.
In keeping with the allotted time of 12 noon, the National Anthem was played as students, staff and visitors proudly looked on. Student Representative Council leaders read out the flag oath, which was repeated by students and staff.
The UAE flag is a symbol of Emirati unity and a source of pride and a symbol of respect for the nation and wasfirst raised by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in December 1971 on the union of the Emirates and the founding of the UAE.
Director Dr Karmostaji stated that he was proud of the people and the nation, and that it was warming to see the Abu Dhabi Colleges’ student and staff body enthusiastically celebrating this auspicious occasion together.
