AD/KCWC students to celebrate National Day with community
As a tribute to their nation’s leaders, and in genuine celebration, the Higher Colleges of Technology’s Abu Dhabi/Khalifa City Women’s College (AD/KCWC) students are hosting a community event to commemorate the UAE’s 41st National Day.
The cultural event, which was held for the first time for National Day 2011, will take place this year at Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall on Thursday and Friday, 22-23 November.
Marina Mall has generously donated space for the majlis, and Al Hosn Gas Company provided additional support for the community outreach project.
Dozens of students have enthusiastically embraced “the Spirit of the Union” in their effort to connect with the wider Abu Dhabi community.
At this year’s event, members of the College Student Council will be demonstrating skills they learned in the College as they welcome guests to a traditional majlis in the mall. For example, Education students will carry out activities for children; Computer and Information Science students will assist the public to use tablet computers to send congratulatory messages; and Applied Communication students will take, edit, and print photos of visitors.
In addition to the children’s activities, digital greetings, and photography, visitors will enjoy cultural performances, henna, traditional food, and quiz games with valuable prizes. All activities will center around UAE culture and traditions.
AD/KCWC Director Dr. Jace Hargis said, “Our students are eager to demonstrate for the public the traditions they treasure. Bringing the community to our majlis at Marina Mall is a chance for our students to increase their Social Emotional Competence, because sharing their own rich culture helps young Emiratis appreciate what they have to offer the world.”
