AD/KCWC students gather for 41st National Day
The Higher Colleges of Technology’s Abu Dhabi/Khalifa City Women’s College (AD/KCWC) continued its celebrations of the UAE’s 41st National Day on Tuesday, 27 November.
Following a stunning display of classic cars, courtesy of Dubai’s Union Cars Club, and a community majlis at Marina Mall, students from Khalifa City joined their companions at the College’s Abu Dhabi City campus for a festive day in support of their nation and its leaders.
In preparation for the celebration, students followed the encouragement of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, by planting “Union Trees” on College grounds in both Abu Dhabi and Khalifa City. The trees planted on the occasion of the 41st National Day represent “the spirit of the union.”
As is traditional at AD/KCWC, the celebration began when the Abu Dhabi Police Band played the national anthem. The ever popular band played several pieces of national-themed music. Another enjoyable tradition was the parade of cars decorated for National Day. Spectators voted for their favorites from a group of very notable vehicles.
The College welcomed female visitors and children for the occasion, and students ran a bazaar, barbecue, and a talent show. Organizers directed young children to “Kids’ Corner,” where students shared face-painting and other activities. A special guest was the television cartoon character Hamdoon, while “Heritage Corner” featured traditional food items cooked on the spot.
Throughout the day, participants enjoyed music, food, and activities such as an “e-tent,” where visitors could play video games designed by Computer and Information Science students.
Student Samiya said, “It’s nice to come together at the College to celebrate our country.”
ADWC’s Director, Dr. Jace Hargis, offered his congratulations on the occasion. “It is an honor for me to congratulate our Emirati students and guests on this 41st National Day. We who work at the HCT are lucky to be allowed to participate in the growth of this amazing nation.”
