AAWC Students’ mGovernment App Short-listed for Best MOI App
'ReportNow', a smart phone app developed by HCT Al Ain Women's College students, Alia Alnyadi, Amani Al Naqbi, Asma Al Nuaimi and Hind Al Dhaheri, is among the six best Apps short-listed for the winning app in the MOI smart App competition.
This competition, in which 23 student groups from UAE universities competed, is inspired by best m-Government service award that was initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as part as his newly launched Mobile Government vision.
ReportNow has the objective to deliver safety and security to all residence of the UAE by creating the opportunity to report any hazard on mobile devices in a comfortable and fast way.
Alia, Amani, Asma and Hind, who were mentored by AAWC CIS coordinator Elke Vogel-Adham, had the idea for the app while participating in a smart government workshop organised by the Ministry of Interior.
The App improves the existing police reporting system by allowing UAE citizens to report any kind of crime, accidents, fights and a lot more in different ways. Reports can be voice-recorded and pictures of the crime can be taken. All reports are sent directly to the MOI reporting system. They automatically include the GPS data and telephone number of the mobile device. Moreover, users can call important emergency numbers in just one click and find the nearest police stations to the current location on a map.
Also, ReportNow includes reporting for the hearing impaired in form of sign language. In order to be able to implement this feature, Alia, Amani, Asma and Hind went to the Al Ain Rehabilitation Care Center for Special Needs. Once finished, they presented the App to the hearing impaired. The students in the center were so excited that it became clear that Apps like this are needed for the UAE residents.
