AAWC hosts CIS Workshops for High School Students
On Thursday, 30 January 2014, the Computer and Information Science Faculty at Al Ain Women’s College (AAWC) hosted two successful workshops for local high school students.
Forty-eight grade-11 female students and two teachers from Um Al Emarat School visited AAWC in order to participate in the workshops: “Networking – Building a Peer-to-Peer Network” and “Hardware – How to build a computer!”.
First, the Student Recruitment Officer, Hessa Al Shamsi, gave the High School students a session about Al Ain Women’s College as part of the recruitment efforts of Al Ain Colleges and was followed by refreshments.
In the hands-on “Hardware” workshop, Fatima Alshamsi, president of the ACM (Al Ain Colleges Chapter) demonstrated the computer parts and explained how to put these parts together in order to build a working computer. The second hands-on “Networking” workshop was led by ACM secretary Al Anoud Al Kendi and Noura Alshamsi, who built a peer-to-peer network with the high school students.
Teachers and students of Um Al Emarat School enjoyed the event, which was organised by the CIS Admin Officer Hind Al Dhaheri. They were presented with an award and a certificate of participation at the end of the event. It was discussed to organise “Mobile Programming” and “Robotics” workshops for Um Al Emarat School students in the second semester.
